One of the most crucial relationships that enables a team to work together is the one between safety professionals and supervisors. Supervisors “know the personalities of their workers far better than the safety professional does, so without them, you’re doomed to failure – or at least doomed to less than optimal success.

Executive education around safety is relatively rare, but that is changing. Among organizations that strive to make safety integral to their culture and identity, it’s no longer enough that executives have good intentions. They also must have the competencies to drive safety strategy effectively.

According to OSHA, about 90 deaths involving confined spaces occur every year. Such incidents may occur because workers and employers do not know what confined spaces actually are or what dangers may lurk inside. One study concluded 40 percent of confined space fatalities involve attempted rescuers.
